A Great Get Away....

The 4 amigas took off for San Francisco last weekend with the driving force being to see the Frida show at SFMOMA. It is not to be missed if you are anywhere near the bay area before the 28th. The exhibit of Chinese artists was really great too. I could only use my camera in the one area but it gives you an idea of what it was like in there. Mary has some great photos and details that I will try not to repeat here. Go see her blog for more info.

I thought it was interesting that we had all lived here within a few years of each other...in the 60's...doing completely different things. I came ...don't laugh... to go to modeling school...reality set in after the course ended and I got a job at the phone company. I moved three times and on this trip I saw the first 2 places I lived and I think I picked out the Grimme' Modeling building....but not positive I had it right.

Thanks to Sukie we found an amazing bakery/tacoria in Greenfield, La Plaza, on the way up.....We never had a bad meal the whole trip. I thought the Nanking place in Chinatown was excellent with some fun energy. The line went pretty fast. We told the waitress to bring us a shrimp dish and she she said she would make us something we would like ...and boy did she. If you go just say you want a chicken dish or whatever and leave it up to them.

The mission district in SF was pretty amazing. I like several shops there. I was glad to see so much indie art for sale and being bought. I saw things I had seen on blogs and on Etsy. Staying down town we were able to walk to many places. The fabric store, Britex, could have been a whole day experience as could have the farmer's market and the Ferry building. So as you can see the only bad thing was not enough time to do all we wanted to do. We didn't make it to Flax Art Store in time....or hit the right day for Tail of the Yak...guess we need to go back.

The class of '66

We all celebrated our 60th birthday with a group Bar B Q birthday party at our hometown, Santa Paula, Steckle Park. A place we all spent lots of time at at various times in our lives.....good times....(spoken with a SNL voice).

Paula, Linda, me

Marsha, me, Melinda, Sally and Nancy

Billie, Linda, Paula and I planned an all girl's weekend to go along with the Bar BQ. Paula couldn't do the sleep over at the last minute but made it to the park. Even though we talked all weekend we could have talked more.

It was so fun to see everyone. There were 175 people at the event. We had good weather and food. I keep thinking about everyone and wondering what they are doing now etc. We will have to catch up all over again next time...

The last days of summer

Wed. Colleen and I went to Refugio Beach. It was a perfect day and we even went in the water. I felt like I was playing hooky...We saw dolphins and I think the longest line of pelicans I have ever seen. I counted 39.

Thurs was Susan BB and Pepa's birthday party at Pepa's amazing new home. We did a little project with Susan, had delicious tostadas and big yummy cupcakes...A really great day. Madison came so I did not get many pictures or my project done but it was so good to see everyone and catch up alittle.

Here are a couple of shots of Pepa's new home....

So true!

And here are some funnys from Penny....

...and here is a pic of me Penny did some photoshop magic on. I love it!

Jesse Reno in NoHo with CP

What a great 2 days!!! Not only is Jesse amazing but I met such great people/artists!!! I felt like everything I saw produced in the 2 days I was there was an art show ready to go on the wall. The diversity of the styles were amazing! My head has been almost vibrating ever since. I had to miss the last day and it is killing me not to see how everyone's art finished up. Jesse's work changes constantly so I can only show you the first incarnations.

He was also working on a mini mural for Carol in her to die for studio/crib.

I am itching to get to painting......He works with no preconceived ideas...and he never bats an eye to paint something out. That is what gives his work the layer upon layer look....His work and way of working is so fresh and intriguing. He uses the simplest of materials ...and he is amazingly neat....

On the Madison front....here she is in her new jumpy thing....She is still a little overwhelmed so I just put her in for about 15 min. I think she is going to be very sensitive like Jill was as a baby...and still is.

LE at work

Here is LE giving a look at a 100 year old tunnel. Tunneling is what the company she works for does.

Here is what she is doing for fun....I think it is a combo of fear and fun... but if you live in Seattle it is mandator you learn to blow glass evidently.

Madison is 4 months old

Hard to believe little Maddy is 4 month old now. She has changed so much. She is drooling and smiling with the occasional giggle that we all love.

I am behind on everything but I will post a cool picture of Art from Scrap from the assemblage show. Such a fun event.

And here is Earl about to walk around the block with Maddy so she can see the horse and look at flowers.

...and here is Joe, Jill and Madison at Earl's birthday dinner at AJ Spurs in Buellton.

A preview of fun to come...

I went to lunch with high school buddies Billie and Paula Thurs. Billie was here visiting from Utah so Paula pulled herself away from work for a quick lunch get together. The three of us will be joined by another Santa Paula alumni, Linda, for a couple nights of celebrating with our class of 66. We are a pretty tight class and we are celebrating our 60th birthdays next month with a Bar B Q at our favorite childhood gathering place in Santa Paula...Steckle Park...So here is a pic of Billie with a painting of mine. She is taking back to Park City for her local domestic violence shelter fund raiser.

July 4th weekend.....

I am still recouping but it was a great weekend. The fire in Goleta's outskirts slowed things down at the show...and we were concerned all day...but it went all right. It was so close to Hwy 154....You can see the smoke in my review mirror...My buddy Mary basically lives on the right side of this road and up the hill and this is where the fire was the closest to the highway....SCARY!

They canceled our fireworks here, I guess because our firemen were busy.

The next day I moved to a new spot at the Los Alamos Antique Mall...I call in Lala...I share a spot and had lots of help from Earl, Lansing and Colleen...it still took the whole day.

Then Sunday Carol and I did the Dino Cave Art in the Park in Shell Beach. Great day at the beach with our new pop up for shade.
Met some nice people, fun music and saw some new artists....almost more artists than people...I got to see Gregory, Mike's grandson, that was born the same day as Madison.

Here is a purchase I made last week....Ruth had a good time dressing our new friends at the ART CLINIC...
