I was such a fun and sentimental ceremony in LE and Jon's new house. This is my favorite photo.

Day of the Dead

This was a great time to be in Mexico and this time I experienced the holiday by being in the cemetery in Pto. V. and by building an ofrenda in Pozo. My pictures at the cemetery are not that good but the experience was wonderful. Some families sang to their departed loved ones, brought flowers and candles and sat by the graves for a little visit. I felt lucky to be able to be there. At the ofrenda we built in Pozo, we all brought reminders of our own departed.

Hacienda Mosaico

This was so different from Pozo. We embellished a board book and made a copper pendant with Opie and Linda O'Brien here in Pto Viarta, Mexico. ...Had to go in the pool everyday at lunch to cool down. Such a beautiful and relaxing spot to create art.

This is the Pozo workshop

Found objects assemblage workshop in Mineral de Pozo, Mexico with Michael de Meng, Oct. 05.

Now to make plans for next year

Well I am not a big resolution person but I do get a sense of having a clean slate... kinda thing...The coming year I am going to focus on art by starting out "forcing" myself to get some work done. Then I am going to try and stay home more and not take off so much...except for Art and Soul and Artfest of course. .....And use up the supplies I have. I have this weird thing that I need to go get more supplies...like that will magically get the job done. I do get inspired while looking at what is new out there etc. But I have enough supplies to start my own art store I think. I am teaching and co-teaching this coming year and I have a big job lined up in Jan. But I am debating if I should take any classes. I get more done that way but I have to travel so much and lose precious time. I am still not decided.
I will share some Mexico picture with you now

The fastest year ever

This has been a really fun packed year. Earl's birthday cruise, LE on Jon's wedding, lots of car shows for Earl and art workshops for me. The only bad thing was I got really sick, a respiratory thing that I am still having some problems with. Nov. was the Queen of arts benefit art show at our house for 29 artists. We raised $1,100. for Domestic Violence Solutions. Then this month, a wedding reception here for my family to meet Jon. Colleen cooked a spectacular meal for all with great appetizer too. Susan made the most beautiful and delicious cake. Everyone said that I could not have better friends and I definitely agree!

Blogging

Just when I thought I knew how to do this I screwed it all up.....heavy sigh.....Anyway Earl is back and he had a good time... brought back a trophy and is in another VW magazine article on the Sacramento show.
I sold 3 little collages at Art in the Park Shell Beach but spent the money on some metal yard art. I have decided that will be my new garden...metalwork and succulents.
LE comes next week for business and a wedding shower. I got the invite today. It is so sweet...just like Susan who is throwing the event.
Earl's Aunt and Uncle are coming this weekend we just found out. I need to try and make the house look less like a studio and more like a home......not an easy task.
I may just get a website soon. LE is going to talk me through it tonight I think. Stay tune.
Here is an interesting site http://www.oiseauxsisters.com/index.html for anyone who loves folkart type stuff.

the cruise

We had a great time. It just went too fast. I think I like Avalon the best. I had not been there since I was 12. But really it did not seem to have changed much.
We followed up the cruise with a 600 mile cruise in the 'vert with friends Luke and Maki in their 'vert. Other than at times it got up to 103 degrees (not in my comfort zone) it was a great drive through the Sequoias. We saw the Sequoia tree Big Sherman and heard a guy tell his wife "come here and I'll show you big Sherman." Not the highlight of the trip.
Other news:
Carol and I have put out the word about our journaling class and nailed down most of the details. It is Sept 10.
I have signed up to go to Art & Soul in Monterey in Feb.
Earl is in COLO at a car show.
LE and Jon registered at Macy's for the wedding which I still don't know the date of.
Jill and I went to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We loved it!
I sold my Art from Scrap piece. I don't know for how much.
I have gotten the second self portrait RR journal....this is so exciting & fun!
Tomorrow I go to the 3rd Dinosaur Caves Art in the Park Show.....Maybe I will actually sell a painting.
And tomorrow night my favorite HBO shows are on.
Also I am really sick of this heat!
OK Now I am pretty caught up....

This is Mineral de Pozo. It is not far from San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. I am going to a workshop there in Oct. with Colleen. Michael deMeng will be our teacher. We will use found objects to create assemblages. From there we will go to the Hacienda Mosaico in Puerto Vallarta for a workshop with Opie and Linda O'Brien which will include a nihjy at a cemetary to celebrate Day of the Dead. This will be a trip to remember, for sure.

War of the Worlds

If you are ever feeling old...(all the time)...go to a movie that kids like....Go early and watch the "pre-show": The trying to be cool and never feeling cool, hoping to meet up with their center of their universe, current hot item....makes you glad that that is all behind you. Warning: Watch out for the hair flipping, seat changing, running up the aisle for attention and wayward spit ball.

It's been a big week

I was just coming down from having a small piece in Somerset Magazine when Earl one-upped-me by getting in 2 articles with photos in the latest Hot VWs Magazine. They did call him Eric in one spot but they got all the facts right. Then the tickets for the "Earl is 6-0" cruise came and THEN I got an Email saying I was chosen to teach a workshop at ArtFest 06! Unreal....

Somerset

Well I finally got my issue of Somerset. I think it is page 65 I am on. So exciting! Especially after my root canal this AM. Still had some panic even with the valium. But I am done with that part anyway.

Carol and I are cooking up another class idea. Fri she is coming over to brain storm etc.

I am entering a show at Art from Scrap. I am really happy with the finished piece....which is rare for me. I will photo it tomorrow.

I joined a couple more chunky book things...which I said I would not do...but one is Poppets ala Claudine Hellmuth etc...I HAD to. The others are funky birds and Nightmare before Xmas...

I have about 10 more things I am working on the most exciting is a round robin with 23 other artists. Most of which I am so in awe of. I am freaking out at the idea that I will have to put something in their book. It feels like I am going to spray paint over the Mona Lisa...

Jill goes to the ArtBar Fri. I hope she, Mary and Penny have a good time. Just to see those True Color journals should be worth it alone.

More to come....(I need to work on a tag line)

Cueball is a winner

Got word today from Earl in Roswell that he got best in show. So he is bringing home a big ass ugly alien trophy. He is very happy. He did not lead the parade through town because Herbie was there with Disney to promote the movie and they got the lead etc.

Went to Santa Paula today to see my brother. The next best thing to having my dad is to have a fun big brother to hang out with. We went to a great fish and chips place on Seaward in Ventura. I got the fried clams I have been craving since March of last year. It was a beautiful day at the beach and the drive was great down and back.

Is anyone out there watching the Comeback on HBO?....Tooo funny. I want to know what Melissa, LE's buddy, thinks of it.

Oh and my other big news is I am in Somerset Studios Magazine. I have not seen it yet. It is the "chunky book" article and there are 18 artists in it.

Speaking of my art. Carol and I are going to teach a visual journal class. We are planning a 1 day workshop in Sept. We are penciling in the 10th....Athena's Rumpus...WAR...women's art retreat.

Quote of the day: Pull up your big girl panties and move on.

hookey

Yesterday I did some fun stuff. Went to Carpinteria and went to Step One Gallery to see Susan's and Colleen's work from class. It was all very impressive. I went to Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens to see the willow house there by Patrick Dougherty. It has started to sprout from all the rain. I went to Island View in Carp. a great nursery and drove by our old house in Carp. It is now white with blue trim. I still really like Carpinteria. Had a lunch on the fly with Jill so she could get a new passport. She had to get a marriage certificate too. Ended up being almost $200.!!! She also had car AC bad news...what next. The cruise can't come soon enough.

I am posting some of my latest art.

Tweed

Tues. I had to take our cat that was 20 plus years to be put down. She was the sweetest cat I have ever had and we all have so many Tweed stories. Like when she got run over by Jill in my VW van and when I closed her in the dryer...She was always very tolerant....even when Molly, a 2 year old neighbor, would drag her all over. One down 3 to go...
