Who else was up at 3 am?
This was the first time I have seen the lunar eclipse. It was amazing! Of course this picture does not begin to show it....I was too lazy to get out a tri pod. The color really was red and you could see the roundness of the moon in a new way. There will be another one in Feb.
I am starting some new scissor maidens.
It is real exciting for Carol and I to work in our studio again. We now have it all to ourselves and have lots of new ideas.
So check out our blog for the latest info.
Art Clinic
September is not the New Year but in my mind it is always a beginning-maybe because it is my birthday month or maybe because school traditionally started in this month. Whatever my memories, this September is the beginning of new things here at the Art Clinic.
Yes, we have grown a bit- we have added a new area to our wonderful studio space, the jewelry studio and to celebrate we will be conducting new classes. Please read on, and if you have any suggestions of times for classes and the kinds of classes you would like offered, please email us. We would love to hear your ideas.
Art Clinic – September 2007
Every Thursday is art day, a “therapy session” from 10 to 6. Come on down to our basement studio and get messy with a project, see what other artists are up to if just say “hello”. We offer a space to work some materials if you need them and lots of spicy conversation. This is a great time to work on ATC’s(artist trading cards) or other projects.
One Thursday in September (date to be determined) Come join fiber artists: Mary Stanley and Colleen Darling, in a combined class of needle felting and felt bead making. In this class you will learn to needle felt by making items such as a book cover or fun pin. You will also learn to make felted beads and embellish them with seed beads and needle felted embellishments. There may be a small materials fee. Class cost $45. includes a snack.

Metal Clay is 99.9% Pure Fine Silver which has been finely ground and mixed with an organic binder which produces a clay-like material. When fired, the binder burns away and the silver solidifies. This clay can be sculpted, carved, stamped, cast, virtually manipulated anyway that you can work traditional clay. If you have a desire to create beautiful pieces in silver without the need for a silversmith’s tools or experience.
Beads and findings will be available for you to complete a necklace, bracelet or earrings at an additional cost.
Open Studio available for individuals who have attended my introductory class for Metal Clay. The studio cost is $25.00 plus the cost of the silver clay.

Pepa & Susan birthday party
It was a fun day at Susan's new guest house and barn today.
We had a feast for the eyes when we got there ....a tour of Susan's amazing guest house with craft room and barn. Then we feasted on a wonderful lunch of fried chicken, potato salad, bean salad, biscuits and cupcakes.
Pepa and Susan got lots of great gifts. .....lots of ohhhhs and awwwws. So good to see everyone...we missed Colleen and Cindy.
We got these great treasure filled bird boxes made by Susan. Pepa gave us a bag full of items to use in a challenge. I will try to get a pic of the items tomorrow.
Susan H. just got back from Finland and brought us some treasures from Marimekko...I love Marimekko! ...even the bag was cool!
.....AND Mary gave me these fantasic houses and some fun recycled fabric I will photo tomorrow too. All really cool.
This is the doll I made from Tara. It is based on a painting she did. It was so fun to make for her. He has an extra hat in his pocket.

something I am working on
This is from a B & W photo Tracie Lyn sent me. I have a way to go. I hope I get it done before the Art Roundup in Los Olivos Aug. 18. This Artist Guild of Santa Ynez Valley event will be at the Grange, next to the park...for anyone in the area that weekend.
This is a picture of Jill's mother and baby whale sand sculpture. She did it for Earl's company party competition at Goleta Beach....she won...$...
This is a veiw of the mountain with the Zaca fire behind it from Goleta Beach. It is about 20 miles away and has been burning since July 4. They have over 2,000 workers on it right now and it has burned over 67,00 acres. I wish it would turn back on itself...
